The very first Le Mans 24-hour truck race was held in 1981 – in the days before race trucks and factory entries became the norm – and attracted a field of hard-core truckers. Today, manufacturers vie to showcase their ingenuity and latest technology in what has become a sport in its own right, with a European Championship organised by the FIA and a French Cup governed by the FFSA.

The Circuit Bugatti will host the fifth of the six rounds for the domestic trophy, while the cream of Europe’s truck drivers will do battle in the ninth and final leg of the 2016 FIA European Truck Racing Championship. The trucks will be sharing the bill with the Lotus Elises, Exiges and Evoras competing in the grand finale of the Lotus Cup Europe, an FIA-approved championship since 2013.

There will be plenty to keep fans entertained including a firework display and a concert by Collectif Métissé on Saturday evening and, back on the track, a parade of splendidly decorated trucks on the circuit will provide the Sunday lunchtime attraction.
